It is imperative that students have a working knowledge of their times tables in order to be able to understand and work with "fractions", our current topic. Sadly, many of our students do not know their tables. They need to know from 2 - 10. We cover looking for common multiples, multiplying to make equivalent fractions, converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and reducing to lowest terms. Students who are very slow at working out their tables, or who take wild guesses, stand out and lose confidence. Please, please help your child to learn his or her tables. We do not have time in class to start from scratch and go over each set of tables. We play games to revise and give practice. I have added some web sites which have ideas and also online games. Play games in the car. Chant the tables together. Talk about footy scores when working with the 6 times tables; use days of the week for 7's... compete with each other family members. ..
Students, Do not be lazy. Make TIME to learn your tables. You will not get faster or better if you do not do this! Write them out! Say them! Test your parents! Ask them to test you! Play games! YOUR progress is UP TO YOU!!!!!!!!
